At about $150,000, the new L.L. Bean house is a much smaller $140k project compared to the $700k, two-story home sold in 2016.

"It was not possible to bring this one on site or make it cheaper through a different process," said the home's general manager. "It's a real estate investment."

"If you look at the number of properties for sale, it has more of an opportunity for people to live there and also an opportunity for people to invest in their community and their property," he added.

The new building will be located inside an L.L. Bean housing development slated for close to one-third the proposed cost of the original L.L. Bean property located just south of downtown Vancouver in a historic cluster.

About three-quarters of the 5,500-square-foot area will serve as a condominium that will be rented to its tenant through its Vancouver Development Corporation affiliate, the company said.

"We've done the most interesting and successful build in Canada's history, a building that's a long-term investment in a community of our size ... We want to build another real estate building right on that site and then we want to do it here in our home
