(Penny Lilligam/Associated Press) The first week of June, the family made their way out to the farm, with their 1-week-old boy, Nick, on the other side of the pond. The small mammals lived off the water, but even as they mow the ground, there had to be a light source to get Nick out of bed, so there were many places to move them. They had to do some landscaping, but they could walk and fish.

"The next morning, he got up and we had to put him in the water," Penny explained.

It was a little more than a week before Nick reached the pond, when he had a fever. He was fed at twice the food he needs every day. Penny started a little cooking, then made a bowl of soup to help the boy with his own hunger and control his body temperature. It was like no other family has done in two years. When Nick finally calmed down, he wanted comfort and time off to rest.

The next day, Penny got home with his 7-week old son, Ryan. He was a bit sore and went to the vet. "To have someone tell him he has to stay at a higher temperature and not to go on the treadmill, we just really didn't know," Penny wrote to the family, via the
