A group of students gathered together one Saturday afternoon to celebrate their student-run kitchen in North Texas's Pueblo Valley, as well as a similar project in Austin.

They planned a Saturday lunch session in front of an empty gas station, followed by a group of three students, then a full on party at the dining hall while food trucks lined up to do the same.

"It's definitely fun for us to share some space with these students," said sophomore Tobi Denny, a cook.

That evening, Denny said, she and other students spent three hours eating snacks, drinking champagne, and chatting. Then she and co-author Sarah Blaine, who co-wrote the cookbook with Denny and Blaine, went to bed.

When students came back from the party late in the night, it was all fun. Denny said no one was hurt, but the kids were so stressed that some of their friends decided to go get some dinner.

They also were inspired by the first lady. So, Denny said, they cooked a meal at home and took it to an Asian restaurant.

"It was a little surreal," Denny said. "Everyone is so cool. We all got so excited about it and the kids came and talked to each other."
